2016 Setouchi Triennale 瀨戶內海國際藝術祭 瀬戸内海国際芸術祭 3.10 – 11.6 Kagawa, JP 日本香川縣 Setouchi Triennale 2016 continued to pursue the theme Restoration of the Sea. It commenced on March 20, 2016 and was held over three sessions, spring, summer and autumn, for a total of 108 days in Takamatsu and Uno ports and on the 12 islands of Naoshima, Teshima, Megijima, Ogijima, Shodoshima, Oshima, Inujima, Shamijima, Honjima, Takamijima, Awashima and Ibukijima. New art works and events were added with particular emphasis on this year’s sub-themes: the region’s connections with Asia and the world via the sea; the Setouchi Food Project; and sharing regional culture, such as lion dances and bonsai. The Triennale also generated many other benefits. The influx of visitors not only enlivened the islands during the Triennale but also sparked local initiatives directed at revitalization. Many local people were actively involved in making this Triennale a success by helping with the production of art works, manning the reception desks, offering food and hospitality that reflected local customs, and greeting and sending off visitors at the ports. …

2017 Reborn-art Festival / Ishinomaki, JP

2017 Reborn-art Festival  7.22 – 9.10 Ishinomaki, Miyagi, Japan 日本 宮城縣石卷市 The Reborn-Art Festival is a new type of festival where people could enjoy “ART”, “MUSIC”, and “FOOD”. Artworks created by renowned artists from around the world in collaboration with local people will be exhibited in the Ishinomaki and Oshika areas, along with live music performances being held that would give a new twist to your concept of music festivals. In addition to these, people would be able to savor dishes prepared by top chefs of Japan and food specialists of Tohoku. It is now in Tohoku that is hustling to become reborn where you could encounter values and people you would never meet elsewhere. You would even encounter with a new self you never knew before. “Reborn” is a festival that aims not only to regenerate Tohoku, but also hope that you yourself would be “Reborn”. Echigo-Tsumari Triennale / Niigata, Japan

Echigo-Tsumari Triennale 越後妻有大地藝術祭 大地の芸術祭の里 Tokamachi, Niigata, Japan  日本新潟十日町 Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale is one of the largest art festivals in the world and is held once every three years in the Echigo-Tsumari region since 2000. The Triennale provides an opportunity to present projects and initiatives developed in the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field. These projects aim to reveal existing assets of the region using art as a catalyst, rediscover their values, communicate these to the world and find a way to revitalize the region. The Triennale has been held for five times since 2000 and the preparation for the 2015 event is underway. 2016 Kenpoku Art Festival  茨城縣北藝術祭 茨城県北芸術祭 9.17 – 11.20 Ibaraki, Japan 日本茨城 KENPOKU ART 2016 is an international art festival and it was held in the setting of the vast “KENPOKU” region, the largest stage ever in Japan for an art festival. By highlighting the appeal of these resources through the power of art, it aimed to discover new values and revitalize the region. Northern Ibaraki Prefecture, with its scenic ocean and mountains, is blessed with abundant nature. In addition to the Izura coast, where Okakura Tenshin, Yokoyama Taikan and others based their creative art activities, and the forests that captured the world’s attention with The Umbrellas by Christo, it has many resources that are unique to the region, such as its distinctive climate, natural features, history, culture, food and local industries.
